Here is some more information I have found for you.



Indoor Soccer

A non-competitive league designed for children ages 4 to 6 years old. This program is designed to teach the game of soccer to young individuals and to encourage teamwork and good sportsmanship. All practices and games will be played at the Atwater Community Center. Ages: 4 to 6 year old (must be 4 years old when program starts and can not be 7 before program ends)

Registration Begins: Early May
Registration Ends: When Full (40 participants)
League Begins: Mid May (practices) Mid June (games)
Cost: $30 per participant (cost includes team shirt)

INTRODUCTION TO BASKETBALL

Boys & Girls can learn the basic fundamentals of the game of basketball & compete in short scrimmage games. Ages: 4 to 6 year old (must be 4 years old when program starts and can not be 7 before program ends) § Registration Begins: Mid June

Registration Ends: When Full (40 participants)
League Begins: July - one night per week for 6 weeks
Cost: $20 per participant (cost includes team shirt)

SUMMER DROP IN PROGRAM

Children can participate in many forms of recreational activities under the supervision of qualified Recreational Leaders. The Drop-In Program is held at the Youth Center at Castle Park, Monday thru Friday from 10:00am to 3:00pm Ages: 6 to 12 years.

Registration Begins: Early June
Registration Ends: When full (Maximum 150 participants)
Program Dates: June 14, 2004 to July 30, 2004
Cost: $95 for first child, $85 for each additional child in the same family

SUMMER RECREATIONAL SWIM

The Atwater High School Pool is available during the summer months from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The pool is supervised by Lifeguards who are certified by the American Red Cross.

Open Swim Begins: Mid June
Open Swim Ends: Early August
Cost: $1.50 per person each day

FLAG FOOTBALL

Designed for participants who want to play football at a less physically demanding level than that of tackle football. Games will be played weeknights at Memorial Ball Park. The flag football league is open to boys and girls who are currently enrolled in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grades (lower division) and 5th and 6th grades (upper division). Practices are scheduled to begin in mid September with league games being played from mid October to late November. Most practices and all league games will take place on weekday evenings at Memorial Ballpark.

Registration Begins: Late August
Registration Ends: Early September
League Begins: Early October (7 Weeks)
Cost: $35 per participant (cost includes team shirt)

GIRLS YOUTH VOLLEYBALL

This program is designed for girls in grades 4th through 9th. The league is divided into upper and lower divisions based on grade level. Volunteer coaches teach the fundamentals and guide the participants through a fun and exciting season.

Registration Begins: Mid October
Registration Ends: Late October
League Begins: Mid-November
Cost: $35 per participant (cost includes team shirt)

YOUTH BASKETBALL

This program provides an opportunity for children 2nd grade through High School to participate in a basketball league. The leagues in this program are divided by grade and gender to maintain the highest level of competitiveness and enjoyment. The program is divided into 7 divisions. Game days may vary for each division.

Registration Begins: Late November
Registration Ends: Early December
League Begins: Mid-January for 9 weeks
Cost: $35 per participant (cost includes team shirt)
This program is divided into seven divisions:

Boys Midget (2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grade Boys)
Girls Midget (2nd, 3, & 4th Grade Girls)
Boys Bantam (5th & 6th Grade Boys)
Girls Bantam (5th & 6th Grade Girls)
Boys Junior Varsity (7th & 8th Grade Boys)
Girls Junior Varsity (7th, 8th & 9th Grade Girls)
Boys Varsity (High School)

How old are your children? That would give me a better idea on which activities would be age appropriate.

Here in Atwater there is the Castle Air Museum (www.elite.net/castle-air). Phone # 723-2178. They are open from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00pm. Their fees are: $8.00 Adults, $6.00 Youths 8 - 17, and children 7 and under are free.

Also there is the Castle Science & Technology Center. 3553 Challenger Way. Phone # 726-0296 (call for hours)

In Merced there is the Yosemite Wildlife Museum. 2040 Yosemite Parkway. Phone # 383-1052 (call for hours). They charge a nominal admission fee.

I hope these ideas are helpful.
